Smart Home Tech you Can't Live Without

From robot vacuums to refrigerators that make their own shopping lists, “smart” home tech gadgets are improving every area of our homes and lives. There’s a lot out there, but here are the top three innovations that make a profound and immediate difference in a home.

Smart Faucets

‘Smart’ faucets usually offer a touchless, motion-based interaction, using sensors that have a response time of mere milliseconds. Because you can control these faucets with hand gestures, there is no need to touch the faucet valve. Think about handling raw meat or something sticky in your kitchen, a touchless faucet reduces the chance of contamination or transferring a mess. The motion-based sensor is also ideal for the disabled, children and the elderly.

The intelligent design also conserves water; up to thousands of gallons per unit per year. Some models can even reduce a sink’s water flow by 30% or more from the standard flow, (about 2.2 gallons per minute), without sacrificing performance. There are smart faucets that respond to voice commands to turn the water on/off and customize the flow and temperature.

Smart Window Treatments

We’re proud to offer solar-powered, quality window treatments that enhance the look of your home. But what makes our treatments so unique isn’t just that you can tailor them to your decor, it’s that you can tailor them to your life. With connectivity to the most popular voice assistants, these automatic blinds allow you to view and control the treatments and light in every room of your house. The tilt ® bridge gives you voice control and access from anywhere, so you can adjust lighting as needed. Whether you want to wake up to natural light or ensure you’ve blocked out the world the second you walk through the door, smart window treatments are the way to go. With our app, you can schedule giving your plants a little sun at a specific time of day while you’re far away from home.

If your current window treatments are in good shape, our Automation Kit enables you to convert them to be “smart”. You can make it an easy DIY process by following the simple instructions included. Or you can opt to schedule a pro from our network of installers to set them up for you.

But if you’re ready to upgrade, you can also custom-order window treatments. You can customize the color, mount type, and other specifications and have it delivered to your door, all for one flat price.

LED Lights

So why is switching to LED lighting such a bright idea?

LED lights are up to 80% more efficient than fluorescent or incandescent lights. About 95% of the energy in LEDs is converted into light and only 5% goes unused as heat. LEDs have a better quality of light distribution. They focus light in one direction instead of wasting energy by emitting light in all directions and where it is not needed. So it takes less LED lights to achieve the same level of brightness given off by traditional lights.

And energy isn’t the only thing LEDs conserve. Traditional bulbs are made of materials that use toxic elements that must be disposed of in a way that won’t contaminate landfills. LED lights are easier on the environment because they skip the noxious chemicals and come with a longer lifespan. In fact, LEDs can last up to six times longer than other types of lights.

What really puts the ‘smart’ in smart bulbs is the connectivity and customization you can add to your home. Lighting adds mood and ambiance to every room, and certain types of smart bulbs allow you to change the intensity and even the color of the lighting. Some LED lighting systems can be controlled through an app on a smartphone. Connected with a Wi-Fi bridge, you can control the lights remotely, or schedule them to turn on or off with your phone or tablet. It’s ideal for making your home look occupied when you’re out of town or if you just forget to turn off the lights before you leave.

Smart speakers

Music is the life of the party. Nothing adds more to a get-together or makes your household chores fly by faster than your favorite songs or podcasts. Today's smart speakers can make a huge difference in the way you enjoy your home.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth-enabled, these sound systems allow you to stream audio from any device all through an app. With just one touch, you can access music services like Pandora, iTunes, Spotify, and SiriusXM. Pairing smart speakers with a home assistant give you access to streaming radio and your music library playlists. Many newer models integrate Google and Alexa assistants, allowing you to connect and control music on multiple devices. Now your music can follow you around the house using voice commands.

It's not just the connectivity that's been given an upgrade. The new tech has also worked magic on the sound quality. You're guaranteed a rich, immersive audio experience that comes through loud and clear.
